 The Last Four Democrats |  |  There are a great many issues of importance to those of us in the 78th Assembly District. Below are some of the issues on which I plan to take a leadership role as your Assembly Member. Educational Access and Excellence Affordable and Accessible Health Care Enhanced Public Safety Environmental Protection and Improved Quality of Life Job creation and Economic Development Civil Rights protection and enforcement As president of the Board of Trustees of the San Diego Community College District, a School Board member, and a leader at San Diego State University, I have been dependent upon the good graces of the state legislature to properly regulate and adequately fund our efforts. Unfortunately, over my last thirty years as an educational leader I have too often faced the daunting combination of over-regulation and under-funding by legislators who don’t always fully appreciate the diverse needs of California’s system of public education. We can do better. My unique experience, playing a leadership role for three decades in all segments of public education, prepares me to play a lead role in efforts to enhance educational opportunities and, thus, reduce crime and spur economic empowerment for all Californians. |
